Tricksters & Tragedy: Comedic Survivance
Counter Media And Refusals
Abstract
“Tricksters & Tragedy: Comedic Survivance” explores what happens when humour is decentered from the human. We will consider how cross-species tricksters embody humorous resilience through failing well and often; observing how their stories often stem from a place of social disruption and identity indeterminability. Offering alternative responses to environmental tragedy and social un-belonging, we’ll explore how the trickster lives on without the names we assign and the moralistic stories we tell, in a liminal and porous void irreverent to cultural constraints – embodying a true ecocentric axiology.
